The popular tourist destination of Turkey has seen a slump in visitor numbers following a number of attacks in 2016. What has happened in Turkey? Turkey has fallen victim to a number of high-profile events this year as the country has long fought Kurdish militants in the east.
Now it is trying to prevent Islamist militant violence spreading up from Syria and is cracking down on thousands of people suspected of supporting a failed coup which took place on the streets of Istanbul and Ankara on July 15 and 16. A total of 240 lives were lost during the incident.
Tanks rolled on to the streets and fighter jets targeted parliament in Ankara, as rebel troops commandeered the bridges across the Bosphorus. Furthermore it has been reported today that at least two rockets struck the holiday resort region Antalya on October 14.
